The team that will play for the Cricket World Cup in India that starts in the 30 days, was announced at Grey College in Bloemfontein today.

Gerald Coetzee, that went to school at Grey College, but finished his school career at St. Andrew’s, was one of the squad of fifteen players that was announced during a live broadcast at the school.

The boys also got the opportunity to get autographs of the 15 players.

The team that was announced:

Temba Bavuma (captain), Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Sisanda Magala, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Heinrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi en Rassie van der Dussen.

Until now Grey is the South African school that produced the most Protea one day players.

Since South Arica returned to play internationally, nine boys that matriculated was chosen for the Proteas for the one day version of the game. These include Kepler Wessels, Hansie Cronje and Nicky Bojé who all captained the South African team in the shorter version of the game.

The Cricket World Cup will take place from 5 October to 19 November in India.

Rob Walter, coach to the Proteas, said during the announcement that the team would love to bring the trophy to South Africa.

Learners at Christian Brothers College (CBC) and St Andrew School in Bloemfontein got the opportunity yesterday to receive the World Cup Trophy at their schools.

  • South Africa will play Australia on Thursday in the One Day International Series at the Bloemfonten Oval. The game starts at 13:00.

The second match will be on Saturday at 13:00 in Bloemfontein. Tickets are available on Ticketpro.

Spectators are warned not to buy tickets on Viagogo, for those tickets are nog valid and will not be accepted.
