A learner of the Eunice High School just published her second book.
Ifechidelu Didi Orji (16) wrote her first book,The Adventures in the Magical Forest, four years ago when she was in gr. 6.
Didi was born to Nigerian parents Poly and Chika Orji in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal.
They moved to Bloemfontein, where Didi’s love for stories kept on growing.
“The story for my first book came out of notes that I wrote in a journal given to me by Auntie Natalie and Juliet Paulse as a birthday gift. They encouraged me to write a story in that journal.”
Didi says she finds writing a story exciting.
“I want to know: What will happen next?”
She says she is always busy with a few stories at a time.
Her second book, The Adventures in the Golden Castle, was also self published and released in June.
“I just had to write the rest of the story,” Didi enthuses about her newest book.
“I knew there were some questions left unanswered.”
Didi takes after her mom, Chika, who is a business coach and also loves to write. Chika has published her own book, For the love of Mothers.
She is a huge fan of Didi’s work and is planning a launch of The Adventures in the Golden Castle in August – also inviting other young people to display their talent at the event.
Apart from her love of reading and writing, Didi also takes part in public speaking, netball, singing, dancing and underwater hockey.
She also has three fans in her siblings Franklin (14), Isobel (12) and Jessica (9).
